Sounds of Summer – Music in San Diego

Love live music? We do too! Luckily San Diego is home to lots of live music. There’s something for everyone here including classical music, cover bands, indie tunes, and more.

Here’s a sampling of where you can find great jams during the summer months throughout the county:

Harvest by The Patio. This restaurant, located in the Gaslamp Quarter, has nightly events, including live music. Harvest is low-key and lots of fun. One visit and you know you’ll be back again! The atmosphere here is cozy and romantic – the ideal date night!

“This is a cool little restaurant that has some pretty tasty food, the restaurant has a rustic feel to it with a really laid back vibe,” says a Yelp reviewer. “The servers are super nice and the drinks were good.”

TGIF Concerts in the Park. The city of Carlsbad has free open-air concerts during the summer. They have a large variety of live music and we love it! Think jazz, 80’s covers, country, soul/Motown, Latin, blues, Top 40, swing, and punk. That kind of variety keeps us coming back Friday after Friday during the summer. We plan to grab dinner and drinks at The Patio on 101 in Encinitas. The restaurant is opening in early June and we hear we have to check out the surf inspired Himmelberg bar. Plus the Bao Beach eats menu is served after 3:00 pm. Yum!

Coronado Promenade Concerts. Every summer, Coronado hosts free outdoor concerts on Sundays at Spreckels Park. This concert series has a wide range too, including funk, Marine Band San Diego, soul, 80s hit, and more.

Mission Hills Summer Concerts. Rock out at free concerts at Pioneer Park on Fridays from June through August. The Mission Hills Summer Concerts range from swing and jazz to a British Invasion band. Make it a perfect summer night by planning to picnic in the park. Stop by The Patio Express in Mission Hills for Grab & Go options including salads and sandwiches.

Spreckels Organ Pavilion in in Balboa Park has free concerts every Sunday at 2 p.m. During the week, you can often catch other live music too. https://spreckelsorgan.org/

Bayside Summer Nights. This music series put on by San Diego Symphony is impressive year after year. These concerts aren’t free like the others but they’re worth checking out. Their annual “Star Spangled Pops” concerts include fireworks and patriotic hits from movies and Broadway.

Get ready for these concerts by dressing the part! The Surf Life has all the latest festival-inspired fashions and accessories that will have you looking and feeling on point for your San Diego getaway.

Let the fun continue after the concert! Make it a date night and stop by Saska’s Steakhouse™ for a steak dinner, cocktails and amazing late-night eats. Cheers to a night on the town!

Cheers to great music!
