Summer might be nearly over, but before you bust out your boots and sweaters, you still have time for one last summer hurrah: Labor Day weekend. Here are three tips to make sure you send summer off with a bang.
Ah, summer. It seems like just yesterday that we were breaking out our new bathing suit and our flippie-floppies and heading to the beach to catch the first waves of the season; and now you’re already fading into the sunset.
Before you bust out your boots and sweaters and start watching the leaves change colors, you still have time for one last summer hurrah: Labor Day weekend. Here are three tips to make sure you send summer off with a bang.
In the 1800s, American workers, some as young as five, worked 12 hours a day, seven days a week, often in unsafe and unsanitary working conditions. It wasn’t until September 5, 1882 that 10,000 workers in New York took unpaid time off and marched from City Hall to Union square in what is now known as the first Labor Day parade (Source).
Working conditions may have come a long way since the 1800s, but that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a break. And what better way to say goodbye to summer than one last trip to the beach?
San Diego is home to some of the best beaches in the country. At Mission Beach, you can spend the day walking along the Mission Beach Boardwalk, visiting the classic amusement park, Belmont Park, or just soaking up some last summer rays. And, after you’ve spent the day relaxing, head home to your luxury vacation beach house. Luv Surf Vacation Homes offers full-service, pet-friendly luxury beach rentals right in the heart of Mission Beach. And with their personalized concierge service, you won’t have to lift a finger. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the last three-day weekend of the summer.
If you’re gonna have the perfect Labor Day weekend, you’re gonna need some great food. A common go-to is the Labor Day barbeque with burgers, brats, and beer.
But if you don’t feel like cleaning up the grill on what’s supposed to be your weekend-of-rest, you can always let someone else do the cooking. The Patio on Goldfinch is a locally-sourced, chef-inspired restaurant with a classic neighborhood feel. Forget those store-bought hot dogs and go for some steelhead trout or braised lamb shank, and wash it all down with a local craft beer.
Another great option is The Patio on Lamont, a cozy restaurant in Pacific Beach where you –and your pet- can relax, as you watch the sun dip below the horizon. Lamont offers an all-day Happy Hour on Mondays (because why should you only be happy for an hour?) and a 10% discount for military and first responders.
Few things say summer more than a trip to the ol’ ballgame, so why not head to Petco Park and watch the Padres heat it up one more time? Petco Park is one of the more spectacular ballparks in the country combining the sea, sky, and natural beauty that is San Diego. Who knows? You might even catch a home run!
If you need help navigating the park, you can always check out our “Do’s and Don’ts of Petco Park”. One major do is to head to head to Harvest by the Patio. Their special gameday menu features chicken brats, salt and pepper wings, and delicious cocktails. Plus if you bring your ticket, you’ll save 10%!
So, this Labor Day weekend, relax, enjoy some delicious food –sans dishes, and head to the game. It’s the perfect way to recharge your batteries and say goodbye to summer.
