Vacation is time to leave all your cares behind and calories are no exception. What better way to enjoy some one-on-one time with your son or daughter then taking your child on a tour de dessert through San Diego? That’s what I did with my daughter. It’s a great way to bond and really bask in girls’ time.
We started our indulgent experience with creme brulee and decided to delight in tasty treats from the city area.
We’d heard Mission Hills was the place to get in some amazing boutique shopping but didn’t know it’s also home to a charming little place called The Patio on Goldfinch. This is where our evening began and fellow Moms give it two thumbs way up. It’s a great mix of upscale ambiance with a cozy and safe home patio/garden feel (probably has something to do with the name), so you don’t feel like you took your kid to a bar by any means. My daughter went all in for this tastebud adventure we had embarked on and went for the Twisted Elvis while I went for the creme brulee of course. OMG! The creme brulee was rich with the perfect thin and crispy top layer and an amazing lemon explosion of filling beneath. I was in heaven.
All of you banana lovers out there will get all shook up when you eat the Twisted Elvis. It has perfectly caramelized bananas with…wait for it….a peanut butter mousse with vanilla ice cream! Needless to say, there was not much left by the time we finished.
After indulging our sweet tooth, we took a brief break to shop, stroll, and enjoy our girls’ time. After a good mani/pedi we found our way to an enchanting shop just down the street called The Patio Express. Definitely a spot to visit when in San Diego. There are cute pantry items and loads of kitchen accessories but the thing that made this mom smile was the smell of coffee and seeing those amazing cookies on display. We sat at quaint bistro tables and enjoyed a cup of hazelnut iced coffee and a lavender cookie. The cookies are fabulously pungent with lavender and soft enough to seem like they melt in your mouth. Both were light and satisfying with the warm weather.
No Mom-and-Daughter day would be complete without a trip to downtown San Diego. The hustle, bustle, and all around vibe in this downtown was like magic. It has all the features you want in a downtown with this unexplainable coastal vibe about it that makes you feel like you’re on a fun vacation. After awhile, it was that time again, time to find some more dessert to bond over. We made our way to a place near Petco Park called Harvest. This place made my DD smile as it has a healthy vibe with a loft look. What made me smile was the sharing of a warm cranberry apple crisp. A warm apple dessert always has my attention but the mix of apples and cranberry in a golden crisp was a true treat for our taste buds. This was a perfect way to end our tour de dessert for the city area and we got some much needed mom and daughter vacation time away from the guys. No offense fellas, but sometimes we girls have to treat ourselves.
We can’t wait to visit San Diego again!
